I am a journalist from St. Louis, Mo. I went to the University of Missouri-Columbia. My first job was working in Marion, Kan. I learned a lot in Marion: how to live in a small town, how stories are received, how perception can influence reality, and where the power lies in the newspaper industry. I also learned how to write and take photographs. I won 10 Kansas Press Association Awards in Marion, eight for feature writing. I am at my best when I can detail human drama. My goal is to make the reader feel something. I’m living in Brooklyn right now.
